Summary
- Google Search is starting to offer custom interactive financial charts and data.
- Users can ask about a group of stocks or compare companies.
- It is only available to Search Labs users in the United States, for now.
Google Search just got a lot more helpful for anyone investing in stocks or mutual funds. A new update adds interactive financial charts that let you compare companies and see custom stock graphs, all from a single query.
This feature uses Google’s latest AI upgrades under the hood, but you don’t need to think about how it works. Instead, just ask about a group of stocks or compare companies, and you’ll see an automatically-generated chart. It will even add a helpful explanation underneath the chart. This is rolling out now in the US through Google’s experimental Labs program.
Google makes financial tracking simple
Google showed off how it works. Type in a query like “compare the stock performance of blue chip CPG companies in 2024,” and Google will automatically chart multiple companies over the requested time period. It will even understand follow-up questions, such as “did any of these pay dividends?”
The response includes a fully interactive chart and a plain-language summary based on real-time and historical data. If you’re not into scrolling through stock tickers or fiddling with spreadsheets, this feature is made for you.
It’s all part of a broader rollout of Google’s AI Mode in search. However, the functionality lives right inside Google. It’s the same app and website you’re already using to look up everything else. Once enabled, AI Mode handles more complex requests with Gemini’s newer models and organizes results into clean visual responses.
It’s a natural extension of search
Face it, Google has been moving past blue links for years. This is one of its more practical upgrades. You don’t need to dig through finance sites or company pages because now you can get a tailored response with charts, summaries, and links to go deeper if you want.
The feature is currently only available to users enrolled in the Search Labs, and it’s only in the US, at least for now. You’ll also need the latest version of the Google app if you’re on Android. But, once it is active, it should become a superpowered extension of Search.
