PureKFD is an iOS toolbox for non-jailbroken devices that supports various versions of iOS & iPadOS ranging from 14.0 through 18.0/18.1 beta 4. While it previously only supported firmware versions that were susceptible to the Kernel File Descriptor (KFD) exploit, that all changed recently when the toolbox added support for the more recent SparseRestore exploit starting with version 6.
In a surprising turn of events, however, PureKFD lead developer Lrdsnow appears to have published a new build on Wednesday. The news, shared in a post via the 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) social network, reveals PureKFD version 5.3.
As noted in the post by the developer, PureKFD version 5.3 comes after version 6 because PureKFD version 5 seems to perform better on devices utilizing the older KFD exploit. Based on that, PureKFD version 5.3 adds refinements for KFD users and takes some benefits from the newer version 6, such as its newer app icon.
The full change log for PureKFD version 5.3 is as follows:
- Update icon to match version 6
- Clean up the user interface a bit
- Update repository URLs
- Add device info to settings just like in version 6
- Give extras its own dedicated tab again
- Remove setup prompt for an automatic setup
- Improve overall performance
Because PureKFD is intended to be used on non-jailbroken devices, it comes in the form of an .ipa file that users can either perma-sign on their device with TrollStore or sideload with sideloading utilities such as AltStore or Sideloadly.
Once installed, this on-device toolbox offers a variety of different device customization options and hacks that can be enabled without a jailbreak. Some of these hacks mimic the functionality of jailbreak tweaks, which makes utilities like PureKFD especially convenient on devices where a jailbreak isn’t yet available.
