Summary

  • Samsung is likely to continue a familiar naming scheme for the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip 7.
  • The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is set to be slimmer, while the Z Flip 7 may have a larger outer display.
  • Samsung may also introduce the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra and Z Flip FE, offering more options for the foldable market.

This year could be a busy one for Samsung where foldable smartphones are concerned, as the ever-present rumors of the super-flagship Galaxy Z Fold Ultra are looking very likely this time around. With that in mind, Samsung may be looking to save itself a little bit of extra time by casually dropping the official names for the upcoming models in its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip range in a couple of different places.

Yes, as noted by Digital Trends, a picture from an official Samsung teaser presumably for a Galaxy Fold Ultra was named “Galaxy-Z-Fold7-Z-Flip7-Pre-tease-Bartype_1920x1080.gif”. This all but confirms we’ll be looking at a simple continuation of the same naming scheme Samsung has run with since the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Z Flip. This has since been further confirmed (via GalaxyClub) by a listing for a special “Samsung Internet Browser for Fold7 and Flip7” browser on the Galaxy Store.

Both phones may have some big changes

And some new family members too

These names aren’t a huge surprise by any means. It had been expected that Samsung would continue to follow its previous naming convention for the 2025 versions of its flagship foldable devices, but leaks currently hint we could be seeing some big changes across the entire Galaxy Z roster.

Based on previous leaks and rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is set to be much slimmer than previous models, sucking in its waist to a dainty 4.94mm when unfolded. That’s significantly thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 5.6mm thickness — though the skeptics among you may worry that a decreased width would mean a big hit on battery life. Still, it matches Samsung’s current slimline approach to smartphones, as seen with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, and if there’s any phone range that could do with some bulk being shaved off, it’s the Galaxy Z Fold.

The Z Flip 7 may not see a similar reduction in width, with Samsung reportedly being more concerned with its display size. Leaked One UI 8 screenshots potentially show a much larger outer display on the Z Flip 7 compared to the Z Flip 6. In fact, it shows that Samsung is ready to go after the Moto Razr+, which has endeavored to eclipse Samsung’s flip phones in recent years with a 4-inch outer display. The Z Flip 7 could match that sizing, if those leaks are to be believed.

For the first time, the two mainline phones may not be coming alone. As mentioned, a Galaxy Z Fold Ultra now seems certain, and so does a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip FE model, slotting in above and below the two main entries in Samsung’s foldable range. A cheaper foldable Samsung phone has been sorely lacking, so it’s exciting to see one potentially offered.

We also likely don’t have long to wait for Samsung’s newest range of foldable phones. Samsung has been creeping the launch of their foldable phones earlier and earlier in the year, and if the trend continues, we could see a reveal in early July, or even as soon as late June.
