Samsung has recently grabbed headlines with the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s dimensions, including its 4.2mm thickness when open. Smartphone maker Tecno has now revealed a concept folding phone that’s even thinner, but the twist is it’s a tri-fold model, so it doesn’t just have one hinge, but two hinges to make an even bigger open screen.
It’s called the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept, and opened up, it measures just 3.49mm. You can see in the photos how slim this appears, even compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the similarly lithe Honor Magic V5. Tecno claims it’s the world’s thinnest tri-fold phone, but this isn’t an especially hard title to take, as the competition almost solely consists of the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, which is between 3.6mm and 4.75mm thick depending on where the measurement is taken.
Unlike the Huawei tri-fold phone, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Ultimate folds in a different way, and it’s where the phone takes its name from. The phone folds inward twice, which ensures the inner screen stays protected when it’s closed up. Once folded, the G Fold Concept isn’t as thin as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, as it measures 11.49mm compared to the Z Fold 7’s 8.9mm thickness. Obviously, the G Fold Ultimate has an entire additional section to fold, making the extra millimeters unsurprising, but it still manages to be more compact than the 12.8mm thick Mate XT Ultimate.
Tecno’s keeping quiet about many of the G Fold Concept’s specifications, but it has revealed the fully open screen will be 9.94-inches, making it truly tablet-sized. It hasn’t revealed the size of the cover screen or its aspect ratio, but does say you’ll be able to use the phone when it’s partially open, giving you three possible screen orientations. Despite the thinness, the G Fold Ultimate will have a 5,000mAh battery inside. A triple-camera system and a powerful chipset are also teased.
Tecno calls the Phantom Ultimate G Fold a concept phone, and sure enough it’s not ready for sale just yet, and the company expects to show it off to the public for the first time at MWC 2026, scheduled to take place in Barcelona, Spain in March. It will follow a preview of a similar device from Tecno during MWC 2025. However, Tecno will have to watch out, because Samsung’s own tri-fold smartphone is coming later in 2025, and it’s certain to gain a lot of attention.
